Fluorite, also called fluorspar, is a mineral form of calcium fluoride, often referred to as a fluorite gemstone.
Fluorite is one of the most collectible and sought after crystals in the world, it was named after the Latin word "fluere" , meaning to flow, resulting from fluorite's ability to act as a flow between metals.

Rainbow fluorite was considered the home of the rainbow and was increasingly used as a talisman. In ancient Rome, it was believed that drinking alcohol from glasses made of fluorite could prevent drunkenness.
It calms a chaotic mind and promotes free thinking, flexibility and freedom of choice. It allows a person to verbalise their thoughts and needs with confidence and to gain self-sufficiency by taking charge of their happiness. Meditation with this mineral can help reveal the truth about relationships and is wonderful for releasing pent-up emotions and facilitating life changes.
Rainbow Fluorite is an excellent talisman for "indigo children", it is a great crystal for accessing and navigating alternate realities. It can also be used to protect against psychic attack.
The ancient Chinese held fluorite in high regard, both for its beauty and its ability to bring vivid, lucid dreams. They reasoned that by placing this crystal near your bed (not under your pillow) its energy will radiate into the dream world and cause you to have beautiful dreams, the likes of which you have never experienced.
Ancient Egyptians used fluorite to carve scarabs and statues of deities. Ancient Romans used it for decoration. Pliny the Elder, an ancient Roman scholar and historian, loved fluorites so much that he listed them as his favourite minerals.
It was named in 1797 by Carlo Antonio Galeani Napione and the name comes from the Latin, fluere = "to flow" , to flow. The term fluorescence is derived from fluorite, which often shows this effect strongly, and refers to the ability of fluorite to glow in the dark after being exposed to UV light. The name fluorine also derives its name from fluorite, the main source of this element.
