Grandiflorum Jasmine (//Jasminum grandiflorum//) is a shrub with white flowers originating from India, now found in Southern Europe, Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula. In India, jasmine is called the queen of the night because its flowers open and smell strongest after sunset. It is often part of floral decorations at weddings in the newlyweds' bedroom.

The harvesting of flowers for jasmine essential oil usually takes place before dawn, when their scent is most intense. Approximately 8 million fresh, unopened, first-class quality flowers are needed to produce one kilogram of oil. This is why it is one of the rarest and most expensive essential oils.
